Kindergarten will be celebrating Chinese New Year on Monday, January 30 in our classes. We will be making and eating fried rice, wearing the color RED to bring us "good luck," decorating a lion mask, writing banners, and creating a Chinese lantern to celebrate this very important day!

When the weather outside is frightful, the inside can be delightful!
On Friday, January 20th, the second grade celebrated winter with a Snow Day!! We learned how snowflakes are formed and that all snowflakes have 6 arms and can take up to an hour to go from the cloud to the ground. We also learned that no two snowflakes are the same! After we learned lots of facts about snowflakes, we created our own. Using Q-tips, we planned and designed individual snowflakes following the Engineering and Design Process. Snow Day was the "coolest" day ever! Mark your calendars! Tell Grandma and Grandpa! Tell your special friends! Bodkin's Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day has been scheduled for Friday, April 7. Information will come home as we get closer to that day.

Friendly Bulldog Reminder!
We are continuing our tradition of our Fitness-Is-Fun Day. We pick out a random day each month to have everyone dress in Fitness Clothes to encourage fitness in our every day lives. Feel free to join us on these Fitness-Is-Fun Spirit Days! This month's will be on Thursday, January 12! This is a friendly reminder that even on Spirit Days, students must adhere to AACPS dress code. Helloooo Bodkin families! My name is Brandy Dorr, and I am SO excited to join Bodkin Elementary as a second grade teacher! Although I have been in the field of Early Childhood Education for 8 years, this is my first position in a public school setting. I recently earned my Masters in Teaching from UMBC in December 2016. Teaching is my passion and I try to make learning a fun, interesting, and hands-on experience for my students. A little about me… I am married and have two awesome and ENERGETIC boys who are in elementary school. We have a family dog named Dinky who gets into LOTS of trouble!! I love spending time with my hubby and kiddos participating in outdoor activities like hiking, ball games, and family fun-runs. During the winter, our highly-competitive family game nights can get pretty heated! I rock at charade games, but I always seem to lose at Pie Face…hmmmm??? Having fun, being silly and sharing a little sunshine is what life’s all about! Our snowy showcase shows off our students' art work and writing. Be sure to check it out the next time you visit Bodkin!
