We’d like to take a moment to remind all families about our policies regarding medications in school. Please remember:
Prescription medication is a hot topic in our country these days given the overdose epidemic. Please take a few moments to review the following items with your child:
· Students may not bring or self-administer medications at school.
· Students may not accept medications from any other child.
· Should a student ever find a pill or something that looks like medication, they should not touch it. Instead they should get an adult immediately.
If you have any questions regarding medications at school, please contact our health room at (410) 437-1418.
- Students are permitted to take medication at school ONLY when it is deemed absolutely necessary and only under the supervision of school health staff. A form titled, "Parent's Request to Administer Medication At School" must be on file for each medication. This includes all over-the-counter medications. This form is available from the health room or can be downloaded on the AACPS website.
- All medication must be brought in to school by a parent or authorized adult and checked in with Health Room staff, during Health Room hours. Medication cannot be sent to or from school with a student and CANNOT be given to any school staff member to deliver to the health room.
- Students may not self-administer any medications at school, including over the counter medications (ex: cold medication, cough drops, allergy medication, Tylenol/ibuprofen) unless ordered and directed by the physician and Health Room Nurse.
- Parents are permitted to come to school to administer medication to their own child throughout the school day, without a medication order.
