Fifth graders “suffered” through another unit of ball room dancing. Okay, maybe suffer was not the right word since they all had smiles on their faces. This past week, students learned the history of each dance, proper form, dance steps, and dance etiquette. Jacob B. said, “At the beginning, I did not want to do this. At the end, it was good. It was fun!” Parents and grandparents really enjoyed watching their children perform what they learned this past week. We are so proud of our fifth graders! Thank you to Mrs. Corey and Mrs. Hennerman for bringing this popular PE unit to Bodkin.

Tell your family and friends, and help us support our community high school. In Global Studies, kindergarten and first grade students have been studying homes around the world. To bring their studies to life, they have built models of these homes to be displayed in our school "museum". Students are not only learning about the different ways people construct homes throughout the world but they are also learning about the process that museum curators use to select pieces to exhibit. Finally, students are using principles of scale and proportion to design and construct a home model large enough for Mrs. Major to sit inside.
Please do not drop off students prior to 9:05 am.
If your student is late to school, please escort/sign them in to the office. If your student has an absence, don’t forget to send in an absence note to the teacher. We always need something in writing. Do you need to add money to your student’s lunch card account? This is a good time to check out their balance. Go to www.mypaymentsplus.com. You can monitor what they are purchasing each day through this site. Also, be sure to write the student’s name on the lunch account. check and have them turn it in to the cafeteria first thing in the morning. Please make sure your student has all of his/her school supplies refilled. Please keep toys at home. If your phone number, address, or dismissal routine has changed, please send a note to the office with the new information so we can update your student’s emergency card / health room sheet. Who is on your emergency card? You would be surprised to find that with the new emergency card format, very few parents added additional contacts to the emergency card. Stop by the office with your ID to double check. Always send a note to the teacher if a dismissal routine is to change. Also, an Exceptional Bus Transportation form is needed if your student rides a bus that is not to and/or from his/her home address. Riding a different bus for a “play date” is not permitted. The Bodkin website can be accessed through AACPS.org. Peek around–let us know if there is something you would like added. Do you have a Parent Connect Account? If you do but you have forgotten your user ID or password, just call Bodkin for that information. If you would like to add a student, simply call Bodkin. If you would like to open an account, visit the AACPS.org and under the Parent drop down, click on the Parent Connect option and follow the directions. It is that easy. Then you will have access to your child's grades and attendance. Bodkin Office Hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday during the school year. Wednesday, February 1, was the 100th day of school for the 2016-2017 school year. First graders celebrated the 100th day of school in style . . . a very old style. First graders dressed to look 100 years old! Throughout the day we counted to 100, raced to 100, colored 100 things, and did about 100 other things. What a great day!
Students in grades 3-5 had their kick-off Jump Rope for Heart assembly this past Wednesday. Representatives from the American Heart Association were here to promote our fundraiser. Over the past 10 years, Bodkin has raised over $150,000, and we hope to beat our goal this year of $20,000. All donations are for a great cause and help make a difference for those who have a heart condition. Student Highlight…Brooks K. Brooks K. took “Recyclables Day” at Bodkin to a new level. His presentation to his class was well crafted and well received by eager classmates who asked how they could get involved with his project of making “fidget pads” for individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease. On Monday, January 23rd, 2nd grader Brooks spent the day with his grandmother, Cynthia K.. Brooks loves when his "Nanny" teaches him how to sew. That day, the sewing project was "fidget pads." It happened to be "Recyclables Day" at Bodkin Elementary on Tuesday, January 24th so Brooks brought in his creations on Tuesday to show to the students in his class. All of the items on the pads were recycled treasures! The fidget pads are activity mats designed to soothe people with Alzheimer’s disease. Brooks' great grandma, Carol R., passed away from the effects of Alzheimer's in September. Making the fidget pads are a wonderful way to remember her and honor her memory. They will be donated to nursing homes for residents to enjoy. |
