We often receive requests for make-up work when a student is absent from school. We greatly appreciate your assistance in keeping your child/children up to date with his/her assignments. There are certain times of the year (cold/flu season) when we get 10 to 15 calls a day for make-up work. Trying to meet everyone’s needs can take away from the well-planned instruction for the children who are present. Listed below is the Bodkin Elementary School Policy for make-up work.
One-day absence: If a child is absent for just 1 day, no work will be sent home. The teachers will provide the child a fair opportunity to make up all missed assignments upon the child’s return to school, in accordance with AACPS policy.
Two or more days absence: If a child is absent for 2 or more days due to illness, the parent may request make-up work. The teacher will have work sent up to the office that can be picked up at 4:00 pm. At least a 1-day notice is expected for make-up work requests.
As a reminder, avoid vacations during school days. Per AACPS policy, vacations are NOT excused. However if it is unavoidable, you may submit a written request before the absence to Ms. Amstutz to allow your child to receive credit for missed work.
