During the week of December 8-14 Bodkin will be participating in the Hour of Code. What is coding you ask? Computer coding is the behind-the-scenes, step-by-step directions on how programs work from online banking to computer games...they all use coding . That means your students will be learning how to create computer code. Not just that, but Mrs. Pellar's students, the Ambassadors of Code, will be teaching them!
Next week, kindergarten to fifth grade will be creating code using a website called Scratch. Mrs. Pellar's Ambassadors of Code will be spending 30 minutes teaching students how to create a holiday card using the Scratch website. Our goal is for students to then use Scratch sometime during the week independently so they, too, can become Ambassadors of Code. Teachers may use the website as a rotation/station or possibly during indoor recess or at dismissal. Also, coding can happen at home as well as at school. As an added incentive, this is part of a contest where Bodkin can win money to use toward a technology purchase.
We are very excited to have this time and opportunity to work with all your students to introduce coding. We also appreciate how our teachers have been enthusiastic and flexible with computer time and classroom time to work in this additional instruction. We also want to thank Mrs. Pellar and her class of Ambassadors of Code to get us started on this new technology experience. Stay tuned in the future because Mrs. Pellar's class may have a presentation about their own experiences.
